What is Rescue, It means removing victims from a hazardous of life-threatening situation to areas of safety or treatment. Key functions are Locating and freeing victims and conveying them to a place of safety, Administering First Aid as necessary. Restoring the accident area to a safe condition.

 

Confined Space Rescue Action Plan 

 

1. Preparation & Response

ü Check & maintain equipment

ü Continuous training

ü Begin size-up at time of call

ü Consider effects of weather

ü Respond with sufficient resources

2. Arrival & Set-up

ü Begin physical size-up

ü Keep apparatus & exhaust away from opening

ü Give arrival report & establish command

 

 

3. Size-up & Hazards Identification

ü Split into teams -Safety & Entry

ü Gather facts

ü Talk to attendant / Witness

ü Check material safety data sheets

ü Set Tactic-Strategy for Rescue Act

 4. Scene Stabilization

ü Establish safety zone

ü Set up equipment/tool area ( Staging )

ü Entry tag for entry teams

ü Stabilize all mechanical processes

ü Isolate all hazardous materials

ü Monitor atmosphere

 


5. Casualty Access

Entry teams prepare to enter, Medical teams prepare to receive casualty.

Standby team as Safety back-up

Use tripod-mounted hoist or mechanical advantage system

Keep all lines, blower tubes away from ladder / manhole

6. Casualty Assessment & Care

ü Approach with care

ü If atmosphere is safe, begin with primary assessment

ü If atmosphere is unsafe, remove casualty immediately

 

 

7. Casualty Extrication

ü Paraguard/ Stokes Basket Stretcher

ü Spinal immobilization

ü Mechanical advantage systems

ü Tripod-mounted hoist operation

ü Aerial ladder as anchoring point

8. Recovery

ü Evacuate casualty away from opening
