Control Measures for Hot Work

SAFETY INDUCTION

Ø Remove all combustion material from the place of welding

Ø Clear the work area and cover wooden floor with fire proof mats.

Ø Erect fire resistance screen around the work

Ø All welding cables should be fully insulated

Ø All welding machines shall be double earthed

Ø Welding area should be dry and free from water

Ø Keep the fire extinguisher/sand near to the welding area

Ø Use leather hand gloves, goggles, and helmets, aprons, welding shield

Ø Switch off the power when welding is stopped

HSE AUDIT CHECKLIST

Ø Do not allow the helper to do welding

Ø Do not shift he welding cable unless the electric power is switched off.

Ø The terminal of the welding cables should be provided 3-cable with lugs and kept tight.

Ø Oxygen hose in black and acetylene hose in red in color as per standard

Ø NRV of the blow torches should be maintained properly avoid back fire

Ø Welders should be trained properly

Ø Cylinders should be stored in a cold dry place away bottom heat and direct sunlight.

Ø Ensure proper house keeping, good ventilation in the working area

Ø Smoking should be avoided from welding area

Ø Hose connection should be properly made

Ø Barricade the work area and put a sign board

Ø Rolling of cylinders should be avoided

Ø Flash back arrestor should be attached to each cylinder

Ø Any leakage of cylinder should be kept separately.
