For a successful safety culture, it needs to be driven & practiced from top management.

Good leadership and top management commitment is directly related to safety performance of any organization.

The below check points may help you to assess the safety culture within your organization.

Is Safety perceived to be a high priority for senior management?

Do company management generally involve the shopfloor employees in discussions about safety related matters and consult them before introducing new safety procedures or systems?

Do top management visit site regularly and talk about safety when in the workplace, is it visible to the shopfloor employees?

Do all employees and contractors know when and how they should report safety issues?

Is there an effective two-way communication about safety?

In case of an incident or accident, near misses does the organization seem interested in solving the problem rather than finding out whose fault it was?


ELECTRICAL SAFETY - DO'S & DON'T


Are incidents always reported and investigated and given the right level of attention according to

how serious they were or could have been?

Does the company learn from past incidents, such as through incident reporting and

Investigation & lessons learned?

Are employees at all levels involved in safety? Is it a joint effort between all within the company?

Do management give positive and negative but constructive feedback on safety performance and

do they take pride in it?

Does the company actively look outside itself and keep up to date on information and new ideas

in safety?

Do employees avoid risks and behave as if they are really concerned about their own safety

and that of other employees?

Do employees aware of the hazards in their work & workplace and how to control them?

Do top management, HSE representatives and shopfloor employees generally trust and respect each other?

Are employees who intentionally break rules disciplined?

Does the company have reward and recognizing system for safety performance?

Do all employees proactively engage with and look out for the safety of colleagues, explaining

any concerns?

Do the employees having practice of intervention when they noticing unsafe behavior from colleagues or contractors?

Do employees have the same attitude and care for the safety of all contractors as they

do for own employees?
