EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN
A major emergency occurring at the workplace, is one that may affect several departments within it and/or may cause serious injuries, loss of life, extensive damage to property or serious disruptions outside the works.
The following essential things should be taken considered for the effective implementation of the Emergency Preparedness Plan.
1.       Periodic review and Updating of the plan.
2.       Periodic rehearsal of the plan by way of Mock Drills for different emergencies.

BASIC OBJECTIVES OF EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN
1.       Objective control and initial and Preventive control.
2.       Reduce risk to human health & life both within the works boundary and outside.
3.       Minimize damage to property both within and outside the boundary.
4.       Liaison effectively with the Government Authorities/Public/Press to avoid panic situation and public disorder.
5.       To protect the environment.
6.       To bring down the number of near-miss accidents to a minimum.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF THE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN
1.       Assignment of specific responsibilities to all categories of personnel (Main duties of personnel involved in emergencies are enumerated in Appendix-II).
2.       Effective communication of the nature of emergency to authorities within the organization.
3.       Constitution of Disaster Management Group & Implementation   of  emergency action.
4.       Maintenance of orderly public relation.
5.       Termination of Emergency.
6.       Appraisal of Site In charge to Local Hospitals/Nursing Homes/Doctors on specific emergency treatment required for persons affected, relevant to employer, PSSR’s activities/ services.

 CRITERIA FOR PROCLAIMING MAJOR EMERGENCY
A major emergency situation can occur in the event of below emergencies:
1.       A major fire
2.       Explosion followed by fire or fire followed by explosion.
3.       Release of Toxic/Corrosive Chemicals
4.       Emergency within / adjacent   to the working area
